Research Associate/Fellow
Position available in early 2009 working with Prof Andrew Halestrap and Dr Elinor Griffiths, University of Bristol
A position will be available in January 2009 in the laboratory of Prof. Andrew Halestrap and Dr. Elinor Griffiths, as a research fellow on a BHF 5-year Programme grant. At this stage we are inviting anyone with appropriate experience who might be interested in the post to contact us informally. The programme of research is “The role of mitochondria in the life and death of the heart”, and involves use of isolated mitochondria, myocytes and whole hearts, to investigate mechanisms of calcium signalling, kinase cascades, ROS production in ischaemia/reperfusion (including preconditioning), as well as role of mitochondria in whole-cell calcium signalling. Skills and background knowledge in some of these areas are desirable, and we are especially interested in someone with experience of using adenovirus expression and fluorescence imaging in isolated cardiac myocytes. The post would suit someone with up to 4 years post-doctoral experience. You would also need a good publication record, be able to work as a reasonably independent member of a team, experience of presenting posters or talks at national and international meetings, and of supervision of PhD and undergraduate students.
